Linda and I went to a meeting of the Knoxville Homeless Collective last night. The Collective is a group of homeless people who have joined together to try and mobilize and advocate for their rights as people. On a night when Donald Trump was winning the Tennessee primary on a platform that largely was based on getting rid of disposable people we listened to people talk about what it really is like to be disposable.
They thought they had “rights”. In two weeks they are going to the Knoxville City Council to talk about a document…. “The Knoxville Homeless Bill of Rights”. I know Linda and I plan to be there.
They think they have the right to rest….
They think they have the right to eat….
They think they have the right to walk….
They think they have the right to be treated like people regardless of their housing status.
