What poor people know 

1.)  Raises are never enough to matter. 

2.) People don’t really eat 3 meals a day in real life. 

3.) Other people believe they are lazy and are poor for fun. 

4.) Every time there is a an unexpected expense you are screwed.  There are always unexpected expenses. 

5.) Getting to the point where you actually live payday to payday is major progress. 

6.) Rich people believe that poor people make taking care of poor people far more difficult and expensive than it should be. 

7.) Many people who are not poor believe poor people caused poverty. 

8.) You must always know how much toilet paper is left till the end of the month. 

9.) Clothes are what you wear until it falls apart. 

10.) If you find something that is cheap to eat you eat it a lot and are thankful you can afford something you like. 

11.) When they find out you are poor a lot of people assume you did something wrong to get that way.  If you tried harder it would be okay. 

12.) Some people believe that people in poor families can’t  care about each other like regular families because they are poor. 

13.) The people you vote for don’t really believe you vote or that they need to listen to you. 

14.) Life is dangerous. 

15.) Police know who is poor and who is not and they believe you are up to something even when you are not. 

16.) You do things to get help from people who make you feel dirty and undeserving because you have people in your family depending on you. 

17.) You must pray every day your kids will have a better chance than you do. 

18.) Sometimes all you can do is wait for things to get better even when you know they won’t. 

19.) You will get sick in your life not because of what makes you sick but because you can’t go to the doctor to keep from being sick. 

20.) The things that make life worse are everywhere to be found.  Those things that make life better always cost too much or just seem to be hiding somewhere else.
