Representative Raul Labrador stuck his foot into his mouth as far back as it could go in a recent townhall. “Nobody dies from lack of access to health care…”
The simple stupidity of his remark is mind boggling. People who get sick need medical care. Without it they get sicker. Some people will die. It is not rocket scientist material.
Monika was 37 when she died.
She broke her toe.
She had no insurance. When her mother tried to get her to go to the doctor when her leg started hurting she told her she couldn’t. She didn’t have any insurance and couldn’t pay for it.
The pain in her leg was a blood clot. Eventually it traveled up her leg and into her heart. It exploded and Monika died in agony.
Yes people die from lack of health insurance.
I don’t really think Rep. Labrador spoke for himself. I think a lot of his colleagues think the same thing. The only way to come down on the wrong side of life and death is to convince yourself it isn’t.
The Republicans want you to believe they have benign intent. They want to believe they have benign intent. They want you to believe they care about health care. They want you to believe they care about your healthcare and that life is better and safer with them behind the wheel.
They passed a law that makes it harder for the people who need healthcare the most to get it. They made nothing better and left us a mess that will eventually affect everyone. They passed a bill that no one who knows anything about healthcare supported. They don’t know what their own bill does. Most of them did not read it. They don’t know what the consequences are likely to be. They couldn’t wait long enough to find out.
In any other job in the world they would be fired. They passed a bill because they felt bound by a promise to pass a bill.
The AHCA is the Republican effort to save face.
And yes Representative Labrador people die. And you are making sure the line is full.
